大阪生まれ
2014年近畿大学で吹きガラスと出会う。
在学中や卒業後と、Art ²(Mons / Belgium) 、Pilchuck Glass School(Seattle / USA)、Pittsburgh Glass Center(Pittsburgh / USA)など国内外でアートや吹きガラスを学ぶ。

現在は大阪のGGG Glassblowing Studioにて勤務しながら、自身の作品も制作している。

幼い頃からアメリカのアニメや映画、ポップカルチャーを好み、大胆で誇張された表現に魅了され、今もなお影響を受けている。

特に"Spongebob Squarepants"や"Tom and Jelly"は幼少期からのバイブルで、好きなシーンを何度も何度も繰り返し観ては、絵を描いていた。ものづくりが好きになったのはその頃からだった。10代になると、ヴィンテージショップに行っては、ユニークなおもちゃを集めた。

制作においては頭の中に残る、おもちゃやカートゥーン、映画に魅了されていた子供時代に構築された独自のこだわりを落とし込むことが多い。

色鮮やかで、どこかまぬけだけど愛おしい。そんな世界観を大切にしている。

過去に愛して元気をもらってきたモノたちに感謝を込め、敬意の形として制作している。


Miwa Ito / Glass blowing Artist

Born in Osaka Japan.

My first experience with glassblowing was when I was a student at KINDAI University. My first time glassblowing not only resulted in several burns but aslo give birth to a passion for glassblowing and art that I've carried since childhood.
Glassblowing gives me a medium for my creativity imagination and whimsical nature.

I have attended a few workshops of an Art university in Belgium and Pilchuck Glass School, Pittsburgh Glass Center in the USA.

Now I work at GGG Glassblowing Studio in Japan.

I have liked Cartoons and American pop culture such as "Spongebob Squarepants" and "Tom and Jerry" since I was a child. They served as inspirations for my drawings and always managed to cheer me up whenever when I was down.

When I was a teenager I visited to vintage shops every single week to get find unique toys which you can not easily find anywhere else. These vintage shops and pieces also served as inspiration and fuel for my passion in art.

Most of my work is based on the memories and experiences I had when I was a child spellbound by cartoons, movies, and toys.

I like to create colorfull, pop, beautiful and inherently goofy pop culture mementos.
Making my art "goofy" and carefree is the aspect I cherish the most about my part and is the most interesting for me to creat and channel into my work.

The primary reasons I create are to show appreciation and pay homage to the pop culture works I fell in love with during my youth and create new which will hopefully be cared for and appreciated by someone special.
